Residents
in the town of Shelburne
will vote in November on whether to explore a so-called "form based zoning code" for
development. The goal is to fight unchecked commercial development and suburban
sprawl.
The Shelburne Fire Department has proposed purchasing a used
fire rescue boat to use on Lake Champlain for approximately
$36,000. If purchased, it would be the only firefighting boat in the area.
Finding
greater energy efficiency is a proposition facing many Vermont communities, and towns hoping to save on energy
costs are starting small – with their
streetlights.
Officials
in Shelburne have
endorsed a project by Norwich University architectural students to design a visitor center for
the Route 7 corridor. The
project will highlight the value of Lake Champlain and
lake-front properties.
Cities and towns along Vermont’s
Route 7 corridor have long fought unchecked commercial development and suburban
sprawl, trying to maintain their community identity. One Vermont town hopes it has found a way.
The
new building, which will be open year-round, will include galleries to
showcase special exhibitions, and will include auditorium and classroom
space. Currently, the museum is open for six months of the year.
Shelburne Museum’s staff is looking forward to this summer’s season,
when it will unveil some art acquisitions with direct links to the museum’s
founder.
