Oakland, California has long been home for people building
new lives and imagining even better ones but dreams deferred also haunt
this place. Empty post-boom skyscrapers and infamous homicide rates plague the city,
but in the face of these problems, the people of Oakland
characteristically answer back with diverse, revolutionary
solutions.

 

On the Saturday, Feb. 21st edition of State of the Re:Union: Oakland, we
learn about a revolutionary strategy for creating healthier communities
by bringing neighbors together in one of Oakland’s poorest
neighborhoods, a unique high school with students from all over the
world, a fresh look at the Black Panther Party and the world of hip hop.
