Dana Yeaton’s plays have looked at misfits on the run in Quebec (The Big
Random), a Vermont farm family facing the Great Flood of 1927 (Mad
River Rising) and African-American football players (Redshirts). He also
wrote a played based on Chris Bohjalian’s novel “Midwives.”

The
Middlebury playwright’s latest play is a musical called “Swing State.”
It follows the exploits of a gay, atheist chiropractor who returns to
his native Ohio and meets a born-again kindergarten teacher. The play
was staged at the New York Musical Theater Festival this summer.

We
talk with Yeaton about how “Swing State” was received, his past works,
current projects and what excites him about being a playwright and
teacher.

Also
on the program, Vermont Democratic Party Chairman Jake Perkinson
provides an update from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte,
North Carolina.
