Adjutant General Michael Dubie has led the Vermont National Guard through some of the most eventful years in its history.  After deployments in two overseas wars, the guard has been reassessing its mission in light of budget deliberations in Congress and a new Pentagon national defense strategy. The Vermont Air Guard is also on the short list to receive a new generation of fighter jets.

As he prepares to take on a new assignment as deputy commander of the U.S. Northern Command, subject to Senate approval, Dubie talks to VPR’s Jane Lindholm about his years with the guard and the challenges his successor will face.

Also in the program, singer-songwriter Zack duPont. We hear a few cuts
from his new album, "Somewhere in Between", out this month, and talk
with the Burlington-based musician.
