Alison
Bechdel is a cartoonist, who for 25 years wrote and drew the well-loved comic
strip, "Dykes To Watch Out For." She is also an obsessive chronicler of her own
life. Put those things together, and you get "Fun Home," her critically-acclaimed,
bestselling graphic memoir about her complicated relationship with her father. Now,
Bechdel has a second memoir out, this one delving into her still-evolving
relationship with her mother. We talk to Bechdel about her work, and that new
book, "Are You My Mother? A Comic Drama."

Also on the
program, residents of Jeffersonville have voted to allow the village to purchase land in
the floodplain along Route 15 from Jolley Associates, which had proposed
building a 16-pump gas station and retail complex. Instead, the village is
looking to buy the land, and use it for flood mitigation. We talk to Jean Jenkauskas,
a longtime Jeffersonville resident who helped coordinate a group of citizens opposed to the Jolley development.

And,
for our next installment of Vermont Edition Summer School, how to pack the
perfect picnic!
