When bears get into the habit of wandering through residential areas, things seldom work out favorably for the bear. Earlier this month a black bear was shot by troopers on a busy stretch of Route 5 in Dummerston ‘for reasons of public safety.’ This upset many residents, who were thrilled to see the animal. But this story has been repeated over and over. On this Vermont Edition wildlife biologist John Buck of the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Agency will discuss human interactions with bears, and what we can do to prevent such unfortunate outcomes.
