Co-existing with Bears

When bears get into the habit of wandering through residential areas, things seldom work out favorably for the bear. Earlier this month a black bear was shot by troopers on a busy stretch of Route 5 in Dummerston ‘for reasons of public safety.’ This upset many residents, who were thrilled to see the animal. But this story has been repeated over and over. On this Vermont Edition wildlife biologist John Buck of the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Agency will discuss human interactions with bears, and what we can do to prevent such unfortunate outcomes. Also on the program, we talk with Wade Walker of Walker Motors in Montpelier. The third-generation car dealer learned last week that the Chrysler portion of his business would be closed early next month. But Walker is at the forefront of some 400 Chrysler franchises who are fighting back. (Listen)
