A report released this week sets
concrete goals for the future of the state’s agricultural industry, like doubling the
amount of local food purchased in Vermont and adding 1500 jobs in the food sector by 2020. We
talk to Ellen Kahler, Executive Director of the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund,
and Will Stevens, who is both a state representative and a farmer about the
Farm to Plate Strategic Plan, and the connection between agriculture and
economic development.

Also on the program we talk
to Tom Stearns, the President of the Center for an Agricultural Economy, about
the Vermont Food Venture Center, which is moving from Fairfax to Hardwick. The new facility is nearing completion
and when it opens, sometime this spring or summer, start-ups and existing
businesses will be able to use the space to produce, market and distribute
everything from meat to dairy to baked goods.

And we talk to Senator Bernie Sanders about a controversial fund-raising letter he sent out in the days following the shootings in Tucson, Arizona.
