Flexing Mayoral Muscles

Vermont’s
mayors are taking a stand. Last fall, several got together to support Governor
Peter Shumlin’s re-election bid. In January, they spoke out on gun control and
more recently, they’ve called for reform of TIF (Tax Increment Financing) Districts.
This has led to the formation of the Vermont Mayors Coalition.

Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger, St. Albans Mayor Liz
Gamache and Rutland Mayor Chris Louras explain why the mayors are speaking out
on state-wide issues and what they hope to accomplish.

The other Vermont mayors are
Mike Daniels, Vergennes;
John Hollar, Montpelier;
Thom Lauzon, Barre;
Paul Monette, Newport;
Mike O’Brien, Winooski. South Burlington is the only city in the state without a mayor.

Also on the program, we visit an animal
sanctuary, of sorts, in Panton. It’s the site of a new sculpture studio where
Eben Markowski creates life-size metal sculptures of wild animals.

Plus, we reach into our mailbag to read
listeners’ comments.
