Following FEMA’s Irene Funding

Vermont recently
learned that FEMA funds for the Waterbury Office Complex, the State
Hospital and some town projects
could be far less than expected. Bennington,
for instance, could be on the hook for $4 million of post-Irene debris removal
work that the city proceeded on.

Administration Secretary Jeb Spaulding and Irene Recovery
Officer Sue Minter discuss where FEMA funding now stands and what recourse the
state has in light of FEMA’s decisions.

Also on the program, more than a
year ago, the public service department and FairPoint Communications agreed
that the company would not have to pay out 6.6 million dollars in penalties
levied for poor service. Instead FairPoint would use the money to expand
broadband to underserved areas in Vermont.
But some residents are unhappy with that plan.

And as part of our Summer School Series, campers at Maple
Street Park
in Essex Junction teach us how to make the biggest splash in the pool during
their day camp Olympics.
