Product Stewardship is a new
movement that argues manufacturers should be responsible for their products
from the cradle to the grave.  There are currently
three active bills in the Vermont Legislature modeled on this notion of extended
producer responsibility – making manufacturers pay for recycling and disposing
of their own waste.  We discuss the division of corporate and consumer responsibility with
Jen Holliday, chair of the Vermont Product Stewardship Council, and Senator Ginny Lyons, chair of the Natural Resources and Energy Committee.

Also in the program, we check
in with Rutland Herald business reporter
Bruce Edwards about last month’s decision by the Federal Highway Administration
to approve an estimated $34 million rail project in Rutland and Addison Counties.  The move could allow marble ore manufactured
by the Omya Corporation to be transported by rail, rather than on Route 7
between Pittsford and Middlebury. Listen

And the University of Vermont commemorates the election of Vermont’s first women governor 25 years
ago. Madeleine Kunin served from 1985-1991. We hear an excerpt from the
speech she gave at UVM on Tuesday in honor of the event. Listen
