Sustainability has become a watch word on college campuses over the past few years. But several Vermont colleges have been incorporating this practice in their operations and curriculums for quite some time. Green Mountain College recently was deemed the country’s second carbon neutral college, UVM has stopped the sale of bottled water on campus and Middlebury College’s environmental studies program dates back to 1965.

We check in with representatives from these schools on how important these moves are to prospective college students and how the campus serves as a sustainability incubator for the rest of the community. And we hear from Chronicle of Higher Education Senior Reporter Scott Carlson on how these trends are playing out nationally.

And we hear about an Essex High School group that won an MTV contest for creating a substance-free weekend event that they held at the Champlain Valley Expo.
