Like the rest of the country, Vermont has seen a rapid rise in the percentage of people who are overweight and obese. But when the state Attorney General’s office released a report on the problem, most people focused on the recommendation of a soda tax. We discuss the rest of Vermont’s Healthy Weight Initiative report with Attorney General Bill Sorrell and Heath Commissioner Harry Chen.

Among the recommendations that the report made were increased education on nutritional and fitness issues, creating incentives for those on food assistance to purchase more fruits and vegetables and funding terminals at Farmers’ Markets that accept food assistance program "credit cards."

You can view the Healthy Weight Initiative recommendations summary here.

Plus, Vermont has joined New York and Connecticut in a lawsuit against the Nuclear Regulatory Commission over the long-term, on-site storage of spent nuclear fuel. The suit, filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., asks that the court instruct the NRC to develop a long-term plan of action for the nuclear waste. Attorney General Sorrell explains why Vermont joined the lawsuit.

And we open our mailbag to read some of the many emails and posts we received regarding the Lowell wind project.
