Air Force Plans Meeting On F-35’s Environmental Impact

The Air Force has scheduled a meeting next month in South Burlington on its proposal to base new fighter jets at the Vermont Air National Guard base.

A draft environmental impact statement has been completed for how the new F-35 would affect the region.

The public will have the next 45 days to comment on that draft.

Burlington is one of two "preferred" locations that the Air Force has identified for the new fighter jet.

But the proposal has met with some stiff opposition in the Burlington area because many fear it will be louder and more disruptive than the F-16s that currently fly out of the Burlington airport.
