For 18 years Russian author Alexander Solzhenitsyn lived in Cavendish. He called them the most productive years of his life. The writer’s highly publicized banishment from his native land and his arrival in Vermont drew crowds of unwelcome strangers to Cavendish. But the town welcomed Solzhenitsyn and his family and adjusted to the attention his presence brought. When he died this week, a number of Cavendish residents got together to reflect on the writer and how his presence changed life there.
