Towns along the Vermont-Quebec border have long had a bi-cultural quality. People cross the border to work, to shop or to attend church. But those crossings have become more difficult in recent years as border security has tightened.

Scott Wheeler of Derby is publisher of the Northland Journal, author of "Rumrunners and Revenuers: Prohibition in Vermont," and he also represents the towns of Derby, Holland, and Morgan in the Vermont legislature.  Matt Farfan of Stanstead, Quebec is a journalist and author of "The Vermont-Quebec Border: Life on the Line."  He also served on the Stanstead City Council for eleven years.

They spoke with VPR’s Jane Lindholm in a special live broadcast of Vermont Edition from the Haskell Free Library and Opera House about the history and culture of border communities and the issues affecting the people who live there.
