Brattleboro Retreat To Establish Endowment

The nearly 180-year-old Brattleboro Retreat is looking to start an endowment to support the work at the psychiatric hospital. The Retreat is introducing the endowment on September 15.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports C-E-O Rob Simpson says as state, federal and insurance dollars get tighter, the Retreat is going to have to plan for the future to ensure that its programs survive.

He said the Retreat started with a charitable gift, yet over the course of almost two centuries, the hospital has never formally established an endowment fund.

The board of directors hopes to have $200-thousand dollars in the endowment by the end of the year.
