When the Weston Playhouse Theater Company approached Christopher Lloyd and said ‘we want you to appear in one of our plays this summer, and you can pick the role,’ the veteran actor says he took an evening to think about it…and decided on Willy Loman-the tragic centerpiece of Arthur Miller’s "Death of a Salesman."
That choice may surprise anyone familiar with Christopher Lloyd’s manically comic roles on TV and film. But the 71-year old actor says "Death of a Salesman" presented a unique opportunity he realized may never come again.
The production continues its run at the Weston Playhouse through Saturday and then moves on to other venues around Vermont.
Christopher Lloyd tells VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb his connection with "Death of a Salesman" can be traced to a single performance in the early 1960’s, when he saw George C. Scott play Willy Loman in New York City’s Circle on the Square.
