A round of staff cuts in Vermont government is hitting the Corrections Department and the Department for Children and Families the hardest.
The administration of Gov. Jim Douglas on Thursday listed which agencies were being hit with job eliminations through layoffs, the loss of vacant positions and staff cuts through a retirement incentive program.
Corrections saw 10 people leave through the early retirement program. Ten vacant positions will go unfilled and 14 staff members will lose their jobs under the plan. The Department for Children and Families saw 19 people take early retirement, six vacancies are going unfilled and two people are being laid off.
In all, 29 state workers face layoffs in the current round. Last week, the state estimated 37 would lose their jobs.
