A change in federal policy means a group of Cuban-Americans living in Vermont will be able to visit the island nation more frequently.
Because of the change, U.S. District Court Judge William Sessions is ready to dismiss a lawsuit filed against the U.S. government by four Vermonters who said the old travel restrictions were unconstitutional.
Last year the Vermonters sued the government over a Bush administration policy that restricted relatives’ travel to Cuba to once every three years.
Last week President Barack Obama signed a law that effectively allows Cuban Americans to visit relatives once a year.
On Monday attorneys for the four plaintiffs asked Sessions to wait before dismissing the lawsuit. He agreed to wait 60 days.
