What started as an all-nighter at Dartmouth College has grown into a fundraising campaign that’s raised more than $130,000 for Haiti’s earthquake victims and become a model for other campuses around the country.

After hearing about the earthquake, Dartmouth seniors Frances Vernon, Maura Cass and Alexandra Schindler stayed up until 6:30 in the morning developing a campus- and community-wide strategy to raise money for Partners in Health, an organization co-founded by Dartmouth President Jim Yong Kim.

The students have set up eight committees overseeing about 300 volunteers and are sharing their ideas with leaders at other schools, including Northwestern University and the University of Colorado at Boulder.
