Six years ago this week, the gay bar known as 135 Pearl closed its doors in Burlington. The space now hold’s a Papa John’s pizzeria. But for the decade it was open it was a mainstay in the gay community.
Sarah Ward never went to Pearl’s. It closed before she arrived in Vermont to study at Burlington College. But she became fascinated by the hole created when the bar closed and so, as a Documentary Studies major, she created an audio documentary about the place. She shared it with VPR.
