(Host) Governor Jim Douglas is likely to run for re-election.

The governor says he’s not ready to make a formal announcement. But in an appearance on VPR’s Vermont Edition, he indicated he would be campaigning for a fifth term.

(Douglas) "I’ve been assuming that I would, frankly. I enjoy this job. I feel good about the service that I’ve rendered to Vermonters. But we’ll see."

(Host) A number of prominent Democrats already are lining up to run against Douglas.

State Senator Susan Bartlett of Lamoille County said last week she was in the race.

Chittenden Senator Doug Racine and Secretary of State Deb Markowitz have already begun campaigns. And Senate President Peter Shumlin has also expressed interest in the race.
