A Rutland police sergeant facing criminal charges related to a pornography investigation has been fired.

The Rutland Herald says the Board of Civil Authority has voted to dismiss David Schauwecker. He’s been on paid leave since February 5th.

Schauwecker is accused of taking and viewing pornography seized as evidence in a criminal case without permission from investigating officers.

He has pleaded not guilty to charges of neglect of duty and making a false report to law enforcement authorities.
