(Host) Vermont Emergency Management says there are reports of flash flooding in Arlington – and possibly surrounding towns in central and southern Vermont.
With heavy rain falling there is a flash flood watch across the state, though emergency officials say areas of central and southern Vermont still reeling from Tropical Storm Irene are the most susceptible to damage.
Some flood-weary towns are preparing for evacuation.
Sean O’Brien is the fire chief in Moretown. He says his crew is closely monitoring the weather there, checking roads and river levels.
O’Brien says if the water reaches flood stage this afternoon they”ll evacuate the town to a local high school.
(O’Brien) "My guys will get on our sirens – blare our sirens – and tell people to head to Moretown Elementary School to load up on school buses."
(Host) Further south in Plymouth, the town has ordered residents in low-lying areas to relocate to higher ground by 3 p.m.
Elaine Gambone lives in Plymouth. After Irene hit the town last weekend, Gambone says everyone is now part of the Plymouth Emergency Team.
(Gambone)"The water is not going through it’s normal channels. You know it could knock out our phone and power again so we’re all poised for that."
Gambone says many Plymouth residents are still without telephone landlines, and cell phone coverage is spotty.
