FairPoint Communications is recommending that Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire residents consider putting a plug-in phone in their emergency storm kits.

FairPoint says the standard plug-in phone will work when the power goes out and cordless phones don’t work.

FairPoint said it lost commercial power at many of its locations during the recent ice storm, but the telecommunications network was backed up by batteries and generators to ensure uninterrupted service.
