Some Vermont faith communities are adding their voice to the discussion about immigrant farm workers.

The Vermont Ecumenical Council and Bible Society is calling for "just and fair actions" regarding immigrants who work on many of the state’s dairy farms.

The group is made up of eight Christian denominations. It says it has a moral imperative to treat all people with dignity and respect.

Roy V. Hill is the group’s president. He says immigrant workers are vital to Vermont. He says they are valued members of God’s whole family.

A committee of the Vermont Legislature is looking into whether the estimated 15-hundred to 2-thousand illegal immigrants working on Vermont farms should be allowed to obtain drivers’ licenses in the state.
