Firefighters arraigned in arson fires

Two of the six Wallingford firefighters accused of setting up to two dozen fires last spring have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

On Monday, Matt Burnham was charged with arson and Charles Woods with being an accessory after the fact. Police say Burnham, Woods, and four other firefighters set the fires so out of boredom and so they could use the fire trucks.

Most of the estimated 18 to 23 fires were brush and grass fires, including several set in federal forest lands. One was a small structure fire.
