Holiday travel will be a little easier in at least one Vermont town: Weathersfield.

State transportation officials say repairs are complete on Route 106, which Tropical Storm Irene damaged near its junction with Route 131 in the town.

Route 106 is now open in its entirety for the first time since Irene struck in August. That’s when rushing floodwaters created a crater about 90-feet deep.

VTrans Secretary Brian Searles says it had to be rebuilt from the bank of the Black River up to the edge of the roadway.

Irene severely damaged more than 500 miles of state highway, including some 200 state bridges.

Today, only two bridges remain closed, and all but seven miles of state roadway are open to public travel.
