Green Mountain Power seeking data for Lowell plan

Green Mountain Power is asking the Vermont Public Service Board for permission to measure wind in the Lowell Mountain range.

The project called Kingdom Community wind would be owned by GMP and would provide electricity to customers of GMP and the Vermont Electric Cooperative.

GMP President Mary Powell says the utility has spent months determining whether a wind plant in Lowell is feasible.

She says they’ve met with members of the local communities and researched environmental considerations.

GMP estimates the Lowell mountain site could produce as much as 50 megawatts of electricity with the installation of about twenty 2.5-megawatt turbines.

Three test sites are planned.
