One candidate has dropped out of the race for lieutenant governor in Vermont, and a new one’s in the running.

State Rep. David Zuckerman, a Burlington Progressive, said Tuesday he’s decided to drop out of the race for the number two spot in Montpelier, saying he has to devote his time to his organic vegetable farm this summer instead of campaigning.

State Rep. Steve Howard, a Rutland Democrat, says he’s joining the race for the seat being vacated by Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie, a Republican who is running for governor.

Two Republicans have also announced plans to succeed Dubie. State Sen. Phil Scott, of Washington County, and businessman Mark Snelling, son of former Gov. Richard Snelling.
