No matter the season, if you’re looking for a good stroll among the natural beauty of Vermont, a revised and updated guide will help you find the perfect walk.
Elizabeth Bassett wrote the first version of "Nature Walks in Northwest Vermont and the Champlain Valley" in 1998, but a lot has changed since then. The newly revised version updates directions now that some road
names have changed, and has the latest alterations in ecological conditions.
One thing that hasn’t changed is the book’s focus on nature walks that are great for families, and concentrate on the journey rather than the destination.
There are 42 walks, but Bassett had at least twice as many to choose from after consulting with the Nature Conservancy, State Parks, Fish and Wildlife Department, and the Winooski Valley Parks District.
VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb took a stroll with Elizabeth Bassett recently to Colchester Bog…one of the walks she says she wanted to include because it’s literally off the beaten track.
