Interview: Coaches of the Twin-State Peregrines

About two years ago Little League coach and VPR Commentator Ted Levin found a group of kids who love playing baseball. Levin decided they’d benefit from getting the chance to play ball abroad, with kids from another culture who also love the great American pastime.

Another coach, John Carey, agreed to help get the group of 14 11-12 year olds from the Upper Valley to Cuba.

Levin and Carey named the team the Peregrines because the birds nest in Vermont and New Hampshire and they overwinter in Cuba. It wasn’t easy getting permission to travel to the island nation, but Levin visited Cuba many years before, and says he knew it was worth the effort:
