He started his journalism career at the University of Vermont, writing for the Cynic. He moved on to reporting jobs at the Valley News and the Hartford Courant, where he earned a Pulitzer Prize for explanatory reporting on how the Hubble Space Telescope works. Eric Lipton now covers Homeland Security stories for the New York Times and will speak later today at UVM about the rewards and daunting challenges of journalism.
He spoke with Mitch Wertlieb and said two of the most difficult assignments of his career were covering Hurricane Katrina and the tsunami that devastated much of Southeast Asia.
