Jeffersonville Discusses Buyout Of Land In Floodplain

(Host) In Cambridge Tuesday night, residents will discuss Jeffersonville’s proposed purchase of land in its floodplain.

The land is where Jolley’s Associates once planned a major commercial development.

The Village Board of Trustees signed a purchase agreement in January for the parcel of land off Route 15, blocking Jolley’s plans to build a 16-pump gas station.

Jeffersonville was hit hard by spring flooding, and village leaders say they need to buy the land to mitigate future flooding, even though they haven’t figured out how to cover the $400,000 bill.

Critics of the buyout say blocking the development will delay job growth and decrease tax revenue.
