More than a year and half after Vermont launched a plan to boost its food and farm economy, organizers are celebrating progress.

The achievements include a mobile farmers’ market that reaches low-income housing sites in northern Vermont and an increase in the number of colleges offering local foods in dining halls.

The Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund released the Farm to Plate report back in January 2011. It predicts that 1,500 jobs could be created in the state over the next decade if Vermonters double their consumption of locally produced food.

More than 180 food system leaders gathered in Fairlee last weekend to discuss the year since a Farm to Plate network of organizations was formed.
