The Douglas administration’s top budget officer says it’s not time to tap into the state’s rainy day fund, despite Vermont’s fiscal woes.
Some Democrats in the Legislature are saying it’s time to use some of the money the state has set aside for tough times to address a $66 million budget gap.
But Administration Secretary Neale Lunderville says he worries that if the state spends the money now and its fiscal picture grows even worse by spring, wholesale program cuts would have to follow.
Lunderville says he agrees that it’s raining, but he adds that no one knows how long the storm will last.
