Lyndon State College officials are planning a new student center and academic building.

Construction is expected to begin in August on an $8 million building adjoining Vail Hall. When finished, the 30,000-square foot structure will house three academic departments, a multi-purpose space and the college’s renowned undergraduate meteorology program.

Plans were filed with the town Thursday. The town zoning administrator and planning director Justin Smith says a hearing is set for May first.
