Pollina Announces for Lt. Gov
Progressive Anthony Pollina announced this afternoon that he’ll be a candidate for lieutenant governor this year. Pollina believes a success for that office would be good for his party. (VPR)
Abenaki Claim State Racism
Vermont’s Abenaki Indians are accusing state government of racism. Abenaki Chief April Rushlow says the state is using misinformation and scare tactics to oppose the Abenakis’ attempt at formal tribal recognition. (VPR)
Tango in Brattleboro
Argentine tango originated in Buenos Aires in the late 1800s. It was danced in boarding houses and bars by men who practiced together until they were good enough to attract a female partner. In the ’30s and ’40s, it was popular with European sophisticates. And now it’s turned up in southern Vermont. (VPR)

New Hampshire state officials say they’re not troubled by a friendship between the head of a state-run nursing facility and Robert Tulloch. Tulloch is one of the Vermont teens accused in the Dartmouth murder case. (AP)
Warm Weather Hurting Ski Areas
The warm weather is taking a toll of Vermont’s cross-country skiing season. Ski report only a third of the usual trails open, due of high temperatures and low snowfalls levels. (AP)
Springfield Economy
Town officials have decided after a meeting that there’s no easy way out of Springfield’s economic doldrums. Springfield’s problems are caused by the collapse of the machine tool industry in southern Vermont. (AP)
National Guard at Canadian Border
Vermont National Guard troops will be stationed at the Canadian border without weapons. According to orders from the Pentagon, the national guards troops will be deployed as unarmed peacekeepers. (AP)
Company Fined
The U.S. attorney’s office in Vermont is forcing a Burlington company to repay $60,000 from improper Medicaid and Medicare billings. The medical Store made improperly billed clients between 1995 and 1997. (AP)
