Milton Wind Project May Begin This Fall

(Host) Construction could begin this fall on a four-turbine wind project on a ridgeline in Milton.

Officials with Georgia Mountain Community Wind are negotiating to sell the project to the Burlington Electric Department.

On Tuesday, the Vermont Public Service Board finalized the last details of the project, clearing the way for construction.

Each of the four turbines will be 443 feet high. Burlington Electric has already agreed to buy the power from the nearly 3 megawatt turbines.

Burlington Electric’s Ken Nolan says officials are looking at whether the utility can build the project for less money than Georgia Mountain Community Wind because the utility has access to low-cost financing.

Some neighbors are still opposed to the project.

Melodie McLane of Georgia tells the Burlington Free Press they’re regrouping to decide what to do.
