The city of Montpelier is getting some help cleaning up a piece of contaminated property so it can be redeveloped.

A $194,000 Community Development Block Grant will help clean up an area on Stone Cutters Way, along the Winooski River off Main Street.

It’s the first grant from the governor’s Vermont Brownfields Initiative that is designed to restore contaminated property to productive use.

The Brownfields Initiative was launched in April 2005.

Once the property on Stone Cutters Way is cleaned up it must be redeveloped within two years.
