Police are asking drivers to slow down, as snow has made for some difficult driving conditions in today’s winter storm.

Vermont State Police say several vehicles crashed in both the north and southbound sides of Interstate 89 in South Burlington early this afternoon.

One southbound lane was blocked and traffic was backed up going north.

This morning, a multiple-vehicle crash caused substantial traffic delays on Interstate 89 south in the area known as "Bolton Flats."

Meanwhile, the Agency of Transportation is working to keep roads cleared. Supervisor Dan Champney says all available crews are on the job.  "Our day crew will work right up until 9:00 or 10:00, then we’ll come in with just three or four at night and then we’ll come right back out again at 3:00 a.m."

Some post offices in Vermont planned to close early today to avoid the worst conditions of the storm.

Postal Service officials are allowing local postmasters to use discretion in shutting down operations early in the interest of their employees’ traveling safety.

Normal post office hours of operation are expected to resume Saturday.
