New VLS President Sees Changes Ahead For Higher Ed

Vermont Law School will install Marc Mihaly as its new dean and president Wednesday. He has been an instructor at the school since 2004.

Mihaly says that while many law schools across the country have seen enrollment numbers decline, VLS will welcome an incoming class of 175 in September, which is an average enrollment for the school. But Mihaly believes institutions of higher education are about to see some major changes in the years ahead.

"I do think that in the next 10 years we’re really going to see the disintegration of the barrier between what we currently call school and what we currently call work; where students are going to be moving back and forth more frequently and in ways that we can’t even now imagine," Mihaly says.

Mihaly says the South Royalton law school should thrive in this new terrain, because it is a leader in environmental law and offers specialty programs in international and sports law and in dispute resolution.
