NH jobless rate reaches 6.5 percent in May

New Hampshire’s unemployment rate rose slightly to 6.5 percent in May.

The Department of Employment Security says that compares with a seasonally adjusted rate of 6.3 percent in April and 3.7 percent in May last year. Nationally, unemployment was 9.4 percent in May.

In actual numbers, nearly 1,200 more people were unemployed in New Hampshire last month than in April. The jump from May 2008 was nearly 21,000.
