Officials Ask For Comments From Vt. Dairy Farmers

Vermont’s attorney general is seeking information from dairy farmers about allegations of antitrust activity by dairy processors.

The move comes after a group of dairy farmers sued Kansas City-based Dairy Farmers of America and Dallas-based Dean Foods Co. in October, claiming they monopolized the market into which farmers sell milk and fixed prices.

Dean Foods, DFA and HP Hood, which is also named in the lawsuit, deny the accusations.

The attorney general is looking for firsthand experience from farmers that it plans to submit to the Department of Justice, which, along with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, plans to hold a meeting on competition in the dairy industry in Wisconsin on June 7.
