Osprey chick spotted in Chittenden

(Host) Wildlife experts say a pair of ospreys has successfully bred at a pond in southern Vermont.

At least one osprey chick has been spotted at a nest on Leffert’s Pond in Chittenden.

A platform was built five years ago at the pond so ospreys could build a nest on it. But it wasn’t until this year that a pair has used it.

Central Vermont Public Service has built similar platforms elsewhere around the state and has had good success in northern Vermont.

Enough ospreys are now breeding in the state that the bird has been taken off the state’s endangered species list.

But CVPS says this is the first time a nest in the Rutland region has produced chicks.
