And, Amtrak is setting new ridership records, nationwide and in Vermont.

The national high-speed rail operator says its trains carried more than 31 million passengers in the federal fiscal year that ended September 30th.

That marks the highest annual ridership total since Amtrak started operations in 1971.

Ridership on the Ethan Allen line between Rutland and New York was up 10 percent to more than 54,000 passengers. And the Vermonter, which runs from St. Albans to Washington D.C., had 5.5 percent more passengers at 82,000.
