(Host) Pick almost any place on the map around lake Champlain this summer, and you’re likely to find some kind of celebration marking the Quadri-centennial of Samuel de Champlain’s exploration of the lake that bears his name.

One man is making that celebration, literally, a moving one. Kevin Dann is a professor of History at Plattsburgh State University and starting tomorrow he’ll be walking an estimated 500 miles from Montreal to Manhattan-part of a planned 46-day trek to draw awareness not just to Champlain’s history, but to what he says is the often overlooked role of native peoples, and their own story.

We met with Kevin Dann recently at the Burlington waterfront to hear more about his journey, and why he feels this year’s celebrations need to be more inclusive than the ones held a hundred years ago.
