(Host) Five days after the ice started collecting on trees and utility lines in southern Vermont, several thousand still have no electricity.

Utility officials say more than three-thousand customers still don’t have power.

Most of them are in Windsor and Windham counties.

Central Vermont Public Service spokeswoman Christine Rivers says about 500 in Windsor County should get power back by late this evening.

But she says conditions are still bad in places like Dover, Wilmington, and Readsboro.

(Rivers) “What we’re really dealing with in that area is just rural terrain, heavily forested, off-road lines that just have multiple trees on single sections of lines. We have several crews working on single sections to remove trees and it’s only bring back on a handful of customers at a time.”

(Host) Power crews continue to clear downed trees from lines so electricity can be restored.

But the damage has been so bad in towns such as Halifax, Wardsboro and Guilford that CVPS believes it could be a few more days before everything is restored.

The Vermont Agency of Agriculture says it’s looking for generators that can be loaned to farmers who don’t have power.

Anyone who can lend a generator is asked to call the Agriculture Agency in Montpelier.
