Red Cross Says Blood Supply Is Critically Short

(Host) The Red Cross says there’s a critical shortage of blood around the country.

Carol Dembeck is with the Northern New England Chapter of the Red Cross.

She says summer is traditionally a slow time for blood donations, and that this year in particular has been a struggle.

(Dembeck) "Well right now, blood supplies locally and across the country are at levels that we’ve not seen in a decade. So for those who have never given blood before but are thinking about it, this would be a perfect time to come in and see us."

(Host) Dembeck says the organization has responded to more than 40 major disasters across the country in the past three months alone.
