(Host) A Rutland city police officer has been charged after a months-long investigation.

Sergeant David Schauwecker is due in court tomorrow to face a charge of providing false information to law enforcement. He’ll also be charged with neglect of duty by a public officer.

State police have investigated a Rutland officer for months and even executed a search warrant at the police department.

There initially were reports that child pornography had been found on a police laptop computer.

But the state police charges make no mention of those allegations.

Attorney General Bill Sorrell says details will be released in court.

(Sorrell) "There will be a lot in the public record as of tomorrow when the affidavits are released by the court. But right now since we haven’t even filed them in court, I’m not at liberty to really comment about the facts or answer questions about the case."

(Host) Schauwecker is due in court early Wednesday afternoon.
